Lane Hutson was born on March 23, 2003, in Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in a hockey-centric environment, he developed a passion for the sport at a young age. Hutson began his hockey journey in local youth leagues before moving on to play for the Chicago Mission, a prominent AAA program known for developing talented players. His exceptional skills as a defenseman quickly caught the attention of scouts, leading him to join the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP), where he further honed his abilities against some of the best young talent in the country.

After his time with the USNTDP, Hutson committed to playing college hockey at Boston University for the 2021-2022 season. He made an immediate impact in the NCAA, showcasing his offensive prowess, skating ability, and hockey IQ. Hutson’s performance earned him numerous accolades, including being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and receiving recognition as one of the top defensemen in college hockey. His ability to contribute offensively while maintaining solid defensive play made him a standout player, and he quickly became a key asset for the Terriers.

Lane Hutson was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, 62nd overall.
